We’ve missed the magic of onscreen couples like Anil Kapoor- Madhuri Dixit, SRK- Kajol & Aamir Khan- Juhi Chawla for sometime now. While classic pairings aren’t in vogue anymore, 2015 promises a slew of fresh and unusual pairings. Take a look.
Irrfan Khan & Deepika Padukone- Piku (Are they, aren’t they?)
April brings together Irrfan Khan and Deepika Padukone in Shoojit Sircar’s ‘Piku’. While the film is based on a father- daughter relationship, and Irrfan’s role is under wraps, do we see a spark of romance here? That’s worth waiting for.
Ranbir Kapoor & Anushka Sharma- Bombay Velvet
Both are brilliant performing stars. One plays Johnny Balraj, a temperamental boxer & the other is Rosie Noronha, a jazz singer with a double avatar. Their chemistry is touted to be so cackling that co star Karan Johar had decided to cast them in his next love triangle, ‘Ae Dil Hain Mushkil’. Cant wait for April to catch this Anurag Kashyap stirred cocktail of retro romance in yesteryears Bombay!
Vidya Balan & Emraan Hashmi- Hamari Adhuri Kahaani
May brings together Bollywood’s undoubted best female actor Vidya Balan with the underrated performer, Emraan Hashmi. Mahesh Bhatt has stated that this love story is inspired from real life experiences of his maternal family. With Rajkummar Rao in an important cameo, this love story promises all the angst & human drama that the Mahesh Bhatt has brought to life in classic films like ‘Arth’ and ‘Daddy’.
Varun Dhawan & Shraddha Kapoor- ABCD 2
Both are talented go getters who have the advantage of youth & freshness to their pairing. Varun and Shraddha will come together for the high octane dance flick ABCD 2 in June. The dancing bits apart, if their pairing succeeds, it might bring Bollywood a new successful onscreen pair.
Suraj Pancholi & Athiya Shetty- Hero
Suraj Pancholi first came in the limelight amidst controversy, with Jiah Khan’s suicide (his ex girlfriend), and got unwelcome attention thanks to his temperamental father Aditya. Athiya Shetty, meanwhile, remains sort of invisible most times. Making their debut in a Salman Khan production of this remake, this star kids pairing has gotten everyone interested already. The film releases in July.
Saif Ali Khan & Katrina Kaif- Phantom
The nawab has had a rough run at the box office for some time. And Katrina has had her hands full with shooting for more and more films. Together, they make a stunning couple. Cast in a gritty role of an Indian secret agent on the hunt of 26/11 Mumbai attack suspects across the globe, Saif in a beard cuts a dashing figure. Add Katrina to this mix and this ‘Phantom’ has more than just thrills up its sleeve this August.
Kangana Ranaut & Imran Khan- Katti Batti
She’s riding the crest with accolades for her performance in Queen and drops off a catchy quote every now and then. Imran’s missing from the film scene after a hard time at the box office and stark criticism for his acting. However, romantic comedies sure make him shine. Together, they look mint fresh & quirky. This love story slated for September might create a promising new onscreen pair for good.
Shahid Kapoor & Alia Bhatt- Shandaar
That they are best buddies offscreen is obvious from the sheer volume of photos and mutual compliments they make public. Onscreen, in this Vikas Bahl destination wedding flick, Shahid and Alia are amongst the most awaited couples this year. Both are young, act well & have a flair for romance. Magic happens in grand fashion onscreen this september!
Salman Khan- Sonam Kapoor- Prem Ratan Dhan Payo
Classic love, family film & a relationship saga. Salman Khan is touching fifty but remains a box office mega mogul. And Sonam, despite limited hits, looks ethereal onscreen. Together, they have fans super excited. This traditional yet modern love story (that features Salman in a double role) might just become the record breaking blockbuster of this year. And Sonam’s fate might change forever!
Sushant Singh Rajput- Alia Bhatt (In Making)
