2015 has not been a super successful year for Bollywood. The hits of the year include merely six movies such as Badlapur, Dum Lagake Haisha, NH10, ‘Gabbar is Back’, Piku, and Tanu Weds Manu Returns. It is interesting to note that all of these movies had one thing in common – quality content. However, it is also interesting to note that three among these six movies carried a super successful actress as the female protagonist.
We can safely say that Anushka Sharma in NH10, Deepika Padukone in Piku and Kangana Ranaut in TWMR played a major role in the success of these films. Coming to think of it, last year was also witness to this ‘women’s era’ phenomenon. Priyanka Chopra stunned in Mary Kom as did Kangana Ranaut in Queen and Rani Mukerji in Mardaani. The movies not only impressed but also went on to be box office blockbusters.
Can we infer from this then, that it is truly the dawn of the women’s era in Bollywood? Also, who among these ladies do you think is at the top of their game?
The game gets more interesting in the coming days. The power house actresses have biggies lined up, which will probably decide the numero uno of tinsel town. There is Deepika and Priyanka in Bajirao Mastani, Deepika in Tamasha, Priyanka in GangaaJal 2, Sonakshi Sinha in ‘Akira’ and Sonam Kapoor in ‘Neerja’. Kangana has ‘Katti Batti’, which seems to be another potential winner.
Who do you predict will wear the crown in the coming days? Your thoughts?
