With animal rights activists having their radars set, a lot of care and concern is put in by the makers of any film, that no animal is harmed while shooting for it. But is seems like Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Team Bajirao Mastani, wouldn’t be able to say the same upon their film’s release. It has come to light, that a mare died on the sets of Bajirao Mastani.
The film is Sanjay’s dream project and the director wants to leave no stone unturned to make it look as he envisioned it. It is a period drama, set in the times of 17th Century, based upon the life of Maratha Peshwa king Baji Rao I and his second wife Mastani.
So in order to recreate the film’s scenes, for a fight sequence, animals were sent to Rajasthan, which included elephants and 18 horses. Horses were sent by Yash Verma of Suyaushka Company to Rajasthan for film’s shoot. While filming a fight sequence, a young mare collided with a horse and died soon after. It was later learnt that the same mare was sick even before it joined shoot and was already undergoing treatment.
According to a leading daily, Yash’s father Pappu Verma confirmed the story and was quoted, “Yes, one mare died, but it was a natural death. She fell sick, perhaps due to the weather conditions there. The production house had been taking care of the animals really well”. Also, half a day’s shoot was cancelled upon the death of the mare.
Now with this news, are the makers of Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra starrer Bajirao Mastani, looking out for trouble on part of animal rights activists? That only time will tell!
