Kangana Ranaut has being roped in to play the role of tragedy queen Meena Kumari. The actress will play her part in a film which is to be directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia. Kangana’s last outing ‘Revolver Rani’ was produced by Tigmanshu Dhulia.
Mumbai Mirror reported that the film is an adaptation of late journalist Vinod Mehta’s book, ‘Meena Kumari: The Classic Biography’. Makers of the film and Sunil Bohra who owns the rights to the book, have taken the project to Ranaut.
A source told the daily, “Kangana is looking at her date diary and is hoping to accommodate the film in August-September. The research has begun and a formal announcement will be made soon.” The actress is currently busy shooting for Nikhil Advani’s ‘Katti Batti’.
Meena Kumari, the popular actress of the 50’s and 60’s met an early death at 39 years of age due to alcohol addiction. Kangana had earlier portrayed such character roles in films like ‘Once Upon a Time in Mumbai’ where she played an actress of 80’s and in ‘Wo Lamhe’, Kangana had her role inspired by Parveen Babi.
Kangana made her debut in Bollywood playing the role of an alcoholic in the film ‘Gangster’ and in ‘Fashion’ too, she was seen as a popular model-turned-drug addict.
