South film actress Erica Fernandes who is making a small screen debut with Sony TV’s upcoming show Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi has high hopes from herself. She is ready to go against the tide. “I deliberately choose this relatable and realistic love story as against the over the top saas-bahu or chudail dayaan type of shows which do run. For A, I did not want to be typecast. You will not get other stuff after playing with this genre. And B I personally don’t watch them, which ladies wear heavy jewelry and mangal sutra to sleep?? Why do you even want to check them out, they are spoiling the mindset of the people. I rather watch shows like Parvarish or the recently ended Mona Singh show Pyaar Ko Ho Jaane Do.” (Ironically it had very low ratings).
Having done film Tamil, Telegu and Kannada films, Erica also openly accepts that south content is indeed over the top. “Audiences like it that way. Story lines cant change as mindsets there are still very orthodox and conservative. Unlike Bollywood where you can attempt to change the envelope.”
She also accepted that south film woman are more voluptuous, “That is the trend till now, but things are changing women are losing weight, getting into shape and men are also building 6 packs.”
Can we see you doing Hindi films also? “I get this question a lot why small screens after south flicks? My answer is simple. I want to do all kinds of stuff be it ramp, TV commercials. Films I have done already, small screen was virgin territory. I would not mind Hindi films, but I am not in a hurry, let things take their natural flow.”
When asked who would be her favorite star TV or films? “Erica replied “I don’t need an Amitabh Bachchan or a Shah Rukh Khan opposite me to get the chemistry. I am more concerned about my character then who my co–actor is?”
