How is Big B’s ‘Piku’ character connected to his 1971 hit ‘Anand’?

How is Big B’s ‘Piku’ character connected to his 1971 hit ‘Anand’?

Amitabh Bachchan will essay the character of Bhashkar Banerjee in Shoojit Sircar’s forthcoming movie ‘Piku’. Did you know this is the second time the megastar will be seen essaying that character name?

Remember the 1971 hit ‘Anand’ with Big B and Rajesh Khanna in lead roles. Well, the ‘Black’ star played Bhashkar Banerjee in the Hrishikesh Mukherjee directorial venture.

Talking about this happy coincidence Shoojit said, “Neither Juhi (writer Juhi Chaturvedi) nor I consciously forged the connection. For both of us, Mr. Bachchan was always Babumoshai in ‘Anand’. In fact, I don’t recall Mr. Bachchan reacting to it, though he did occasionally reminisce about Hrishida’s style of working.”

He added, “It was his performance that made the film so real and while his character in ‘Piku’ is very different, there’s a subtlety here even in the exaggerated portions. I’d say he’s an older Babumoshai.”

‘Piku’ is a quirky roller-coaster ride of a father-daughter duo relationship essayed by Big B and Deepika Padukone. It also features Irrfan Khan. The movie will hit the screens on May 8.

Are you excited to see how the older Babumoshai has turned out to be?
