Exclusive: Sonam Kapoor is very chilled out and easy going: Rajkummar Rao

Rajkummar Rao rose to fame in Bollywood with the movie ‘Kai Po Che’. The power house actor featured in D-Day, Shahid, Queen and CityLights since. This time he will entertain you as one of those lucky grooms of Sonam Kapoor, who is going to be conned by the beautiful fashionista.

Rajkummar spoke exclusively to Pinkvilla about his experiences working on the film, and his future projects.

Regarding his freestyle dance with Malaika Arora Khan in the ‘Fashion Khatam song’, he said smiling winsomely,“Dancing onscreen was not a conscious decision, nor was it my motivation to choose this film. I am a trained dancer, and love dancing. A chance to shake a leg onscreen was welcome.”

When pointed that he is one of the three heroes in the film Rajkummar replied, “If you see the film, maybe you notice that mine is the key role amongst the men!”

On Sonam Kapoor, who has steadily complimented his acting skills, he said, “Sonam is very chilled out. She is very easy going, and she is very open. We got along well right from the workshops. We are friends now, and keep cracking stupid jokes.”

He shares the highest levels of praise for his co-star Varun Sharma. “His comic timing great. I learnt a lot from Varun while working on our comic scenes.”

He also spoke about his next with Ramesh Sippy, tilted ‘Shimla Mirchi’. “Working with the ‘Sholay’ director was a fairly easy experience, having gained tons of space to do the role. I admit I was ‘nervous’ initially, but was quite comfortable.”

When asked if he is looking at a big, mainstream film he said, “I am quite at peace with myself. I am not seeking any mainstream roles as of now. I am happy, I have quite enough money, I drive a luxury car and have a steady girlfriend. What else do you want from life?”

While a good life is a major perk of being an actor, it’s the work on celluloid that determines longevity and consistency. Rajkummar’s statement on not seeking mainstream films consciously is all the more baffling in that context! Well, whatever works for him, right? As for now, we are waiting to see the talented actor and the team in the very promising entertainer ‘Dolly Ki Doli’, which is all set to release next weekend!
