Constantly under the media scanner, lovebirds Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma have been hitting the newsstands quite often. One of the freeze-frames of the otherwise forgettable World Cup semi-final match between India and Australia on Thursday at the Sydney Cricket Ground was the reaction of Anushka Sharma, Bollywood’s rising star, when vice captain — and ace run-getter — Virat Kohli scored just one run.
Watching the action live from the Victor Trumper stand, Anushka was all smiles, clicking photographs sporting a white dress and round-rimmed sunglasses. Cheering for the Indian team, she was seen waving the tri-colour and also enjoying a few sips of a drink in between.
Kohli was caught by Australian wicket-keeper Brad Haddin and that left India struggling at 78/2. Sharma was seen burying her face in her hands as a dejected Kohli walked back to the pavilion to begin the Indian slide to defeat. The spirited actress was crestfallen on the third ball of the 15th over when a bouncer from Australian pace spearhead Mitchell Johnson was top-edged by Kohli to be easily lapped up by Haddin behind the stumps.
Like fans, the actress was dumbstruck and hid her face in her hands. Some of the Indian supporters in the stands couldn’t hold back their tears. Lovers of the game in India, who were glued to the television screens since morning, could not believe their eyes as all fans had huge expectations of Kohli. Except for this performance at the semis, Virat has had a good run in Australia and in other matches too. Remember, the adorable and lucky bat-and-blow-kisses episodes of Virat and Anushka!
While Indian supporters are disheartened with India’s exit out of the tournament, memes and nasty jokes have started circling on the internet, blaming the vivacious actress for Kohli’s bad performance.
