For those wondering why there isn’t enough of the powerful Darshan Kumaar in NH10, the blame must go to Omang Kumar and the Censor Board.
Darshan reveals that 16 of his scenes were chopped off either because they couldn’t be filmed or were censored.
Says Darshan, “At least five of my important scenes including one where my character confronts and thrashes his wife after she helps Anushka escape, couldn’t be shot, also many scenes of me and my accomplices chasing Anushka were not filmed because my dates were clashing with Omung Kumar’s Mary Kom, and when I was available Anushka had to rush off for Zoya Akhtar’s Dil Dhadakne Do.”
But the biggest blow came from the censor board. Many of his scenes had to be cut.
Explains Darshan, “They couldn’t cut any of Anushka’s scenes. Some of my important scenes were I abuse her were censored. I don’t feel bad. Because in totality my scenes were the only ones that could be censored. I feel the CBFC has been very kind to us.”
Darshan’s performance has been flooded with compliments. “Karan Johar told me if I get the best villain’s awards the person giving me the award would just leave the award on the stage and flee as he or she would be too scared to give to me personally. I think that’s the biggest compliment. If one can scare audiences without resorting to props or gimmicks then I suppose the performance has worked.”
