Will Deepika Padukone be Anurag Basu’s next leading lady for Imli after Kangana Ranaut’s exit?

Many times, when a filmmaker approaches a particular actor for a role, it so happens that the star might already be engaged in multiple projects. This might make it difficult for the actor to take on a project which they like. Speaking of this, a while back, Kangana Ranaut had announced that she isn’t going to be a part of Anurag Basu’s film Imli as she already has a number of things lined up. Amidst the news of Kangana’s exit, it seems Anurag Basu has found his leading lady in Deepika Padukone.

As per a report of Bollywood Hungama, Anurag Basu has approached Deepika Padukone for the leading role in Imli after Kangana’ exit. A source informed the portal that the filmmaker and Padmaavat actress were in talks for the lead role in Imli and so far everything is looking positive for the two. While Kangana and Anurag Basu have worked on films like Gangster and Life in a Metro, Imli was a much awaited reunion for the two. But things didn’t work out and now, the filmmaker might be in talks with Deepika.

As per the report, “Kangana Ranaut had walked out of filmmaker Anurag Basu’s forthcoming movie Imli citing difference in opinion. As the two of them couldn’t reunite after Gangster and Life In A Metro, the filmmaker has now approached Deepika Padukone to play the lead role in the film. As Deepika is busy with Chhapaak, the conversations between the filmmaker and the actress have been more than positive.”

On the work front, Deepika Padukone has jetted off to the MET Gala 2019 in New York after which she will return to the shoot of Chhapaak in Mumbai. Chhapaak is the story of the most known acid attack survivor, Laxmi Agarwal and in the film, Deepika will be seen as Malti. Her first look as Malti left everyone stunned as Deepika wasn’t seen as herself but as the character. Helmed by Meghna Gulzar, the film also stars Vikrant Massey and is slated to release on January 10, 2020.
