Tamil film industry were in for a shock as Vijay Sethupathi starrer Sindhubaadh, which was due for a release on June 21, did not show on the big screens according to the schedule. The film sadly missed the release date as a result of the fight over money between its producer SN Rajarajan of K Productions and Hyderabad’s Arka Media, that managed to get a stay on the release of the film from Telangana High Court. SN Rajarajan was responsible for distributing Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, produced by Shobu Yarlagadda and Prasad Devineni of Arka Media, in Tamil Nadu. The film turned out to be a hit, but unfortunately Rajarajan could not settle the final payments with Arka Media. This lead to a stay on Sindhubaadh.
Sindhubaadh got stuck due to this unfortunate circumstance and the fans were upset about the film not releasing. This led to a panic like situation in the industry, as nearly 500 screens across Tamil Nadu were bought. Exhibitors were waiting till Friday afternoon last week, but that did not help . Here, Vijay Sethupathi’s loss became Shahid Kapoor’s win, as his Kabir Singh got prime time in multiplexes across Chennai. Kabir Singh, is a remake of Telugu super hit film Arjun Reddy, that has grossed an a good Rs 1.22 crore in the Tamil Nadu on its opening weekend.
Films not releasing on the very last hour has happened before as well. In case of Sindhubaadh, the producer does not want to negotiate with Arka Media for any kind of deal. They have also pressurized the Digital Service Providers. The High Court of Telangana has maintained a ‘Status –Quo’ at the time when the appeal was filed.
