Vicky Kaushal is weaving his magic on the audiences as well as the critics with one performance at a time. With hits like Sanju, URI: The Surgical Strike, Vicky has carved his way in the industry successfully. His appearance on the latest season of Koffee with Karan hinted that he has finally arrived and is here to stay. When asked to choose between directors Rajkumar Hirani, Karan Johar and Anurag Kashyap, he immediately opted with Kashyap. He reasoned it that though Hirani and Johar paved his way to people’s hearts, but Kashyap was the one who gave him the exposure when other directors didn’t notice him. In a recent interview, Vicky talked about working with Anurag and how he brings out the best in him on-screen.
Vicky revealed the Gangs of Wasseypur director brings out a new side of him as an artist. He went on to explain how Kashyap directs him in his films and allows him to approach the work on his own. He further added, “I am able to explore a new side of me every time I work with Anurag. In fact, I want to work with him every three years because with him, I shed all my dead cells as an actor and that keeps me going for another three years. He brings out a new side of me as an artiste and it happens organically. Yeah, he knows my pulse as a person, but it hasn’t been a disadvantage so far. He knows what I am thinking, he tells me what to think, but never directs me in a scene. He leaves it to me and he knows what I can do; he knows my true potential. He has seen me grow and got me into the industry. I had led a protected childhood. The first time I travelled independently as an adult was as Anurag’s assistant for Gangs of Wasseypur. That trip to Banaras changed the course of my life.”
Vicky Kaushal worked as Anurag’s assistant in Gangs of Wasseypur. The actor-director duo went on to work together in films like Manmarziyaan and Raman Raghav 2.0.
