Shahid Kapoor’s mother Neelima on Kabir Singh: Actors have freedom to play morally controversial character

Shahid Kapoor is receiving a lot of praises for his performance in his latest film Kabir Singh. The film has already crossed 100-crore mark within a week of its release. However, some people have even bashed the director and actor as they believe the film is toxic and violent.

Shahid’s mother Neelima Azeem talked about her son’s performance and even reacted to the backlash he faced. Neelima told Mid Day that actors have the freedom to play morally controversial characters because they make for meaty roles. She added, “Tomorrow, if you play a psychopathic serial killer, will everybody watching the movie become one? Dilip [Kumar] saab and Rajesh Khanna played grey roles in Amar and Red Rose. Are you suggesting that every grey role be scrapped?”

Neelima Azeem added that in Hollywood, actors have won Oscar won playing such characters. If we can’t make movies like this, then we will have to scrap films like Marlon Brando’s A Streetcar Named Desire, Godfather, and also Heath Ledger’s Joker (The Dark Knight). She said that the film is a story and not a lecture on morality.

She added that Kabir Singh is a hard-hitting film and he suffers because of his attitude. She said that this Shahid Kapoor starrer is not glorifying the character but wants people against becoming like Kabir Singh.
