Shahid Kapoor on Padmavati incident: I hope people will wait to see the film to judge it
Shahid Kapoor was all praises for director Sanjay Leela Bhansali at a Women Summit event held in the city today.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s historic drama Padmavati has got into some or other problem ever since the project was announced. The shooting was even stalled twice, first in Jaipur earlier this year and recently the set was put on fire by some unknown persons in Kolhapur.
When Shahid was asked about the situation on the set and the tension brewing amongst the crew members, he said, “I am just hoping to get back on sets, hope people will wait to see the film to judge it, because there are a lot of preconceived notions around.”
He further added that he doesn’t want to comment on it much because it is difficult for the production team and the crew members to deal with the situation and they don’t want to say anything that can create further controversy.
“It is unfortunate. and of course, films has become soft targets. A filmmaker must be allowed to express himself freely and one must wait for the film to release before reacting, to say it before a film is released is premature,” he concluded.
Shahid also shared his experience working with the celebrated filmmaker and he was all praises for SLB. “I was told I am difficult to work with and that he [SLB] was difficult to work with but when we started shooting, we had a good time. I think people who strive for excellence sometimes can be viewed as difficult, it’s true for him. He is a dream to work with as he is so honest towards his craft. His only endeavor is to give the best to his audience. Tt’s a privilege to work with someone like that who has made some amazing movies. He is been relevant for over 20 years now,” Shahid said.
Padmavati is a periodic drama which also stars Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone in the lead roles. The movie is expected to release later this year.
