While most of the times Bollywood actors take on different roles, sometimes a particular character might take an emotional toll on them. This happens when one is playing a dark character like Shahid Kapoor is essaying in Kabir Singh. Shahid Kapoor will be stepping into the skin of an angry, obsessive and addict medical student in the film. From the looks of it, Shahid’s Kabir Singh teaser showed all of those things about his character and much more. For an actor, who is married and a father of two kids, a role like Kabir Singh is too negative.
However, in a recent interview with Mumbai Mirror, Shahid mentioned his process of detoxing before heading home after pack up. Shahid opened up about the negative energy associated with Kabir Singh’s character almost to the point of self-destruction, hence before heading home, he would try and shake off the role details so that his wife, Mira Rajput and kids, Zain and Misha wouldn’t feel the negative energy.
Shahid expressed, “It was almost schizophrenic because the two worlds are such contrasts. Had I been single, living alone, I might have immersed myself in this dark zone for six months, as I did during Udta Punjab. But this time I am married, a father, so I had to sanitise myself before returning home to protect my children from the negative energy. I couldn’t carry Kabir’s emotional baggage back so I had to flip roles after ‘pack.”
Shahid also mentioned that Kabir Singh’s role was a challenge not just due to the self-destructive mode of the character, but also because he had to portray three different phases on screen, one of which required him to be out of shape. For someone who has known Shahid, he is a vegetarian, doesn’t drink and smoke. Thus, to break all his own rules was ‘difficult’ for even an actor of his calibre. Meanwhile, Kabir Singh also stars Kiara Advani who is playing his love interest in the film. Directed by Sandeep Vanga, the film is a remake of Telugu film, Arjun Reddy. Kabir Singh is slated to release on June 21, 2019.
