One of the biggest successes of this year is Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani starrer Kabir Singh. Despite the criticism of the film, Shahid’s flick steered clear and managed to mint moolah at the box office. This year, another hit film was Vicky Kaushal’s Uri: The Surgical Strike. While the lead of Uri, Major Vihaan Shergill was one of the most loved characters, Kabir Singh was a complete contrast to him. In a recent interview, Shahid drew a parallel between the two of the most successful films of 2019 and spoke about the success of his film.
Shahid, in Kabir Singh, played the drunk, angry doctor in love who goes out to destroy himself after his love, Preeti gets married to someone else. Shahid mentioned in a chat with Hindustan Times that Kabir Singh’s success is proof that there are no set rules of the game now and one doesn’t need to feel tied down by norms. Shahid even went on to draw parallels among the two of the most successful films of 2019, Kabir Singh and Uri: The Surgical Strike. The Kabir Singh star said that Vihaan Shergill of Uri was an ideal man while his film’s lead was the most flawed character.
Shahid said, “If I were to just draw parallels, two of the most liked films of the year have been Uri and Kabir Singh. While Uri’s leading man was an ideal man, Kabir Singh’s is the opposite. He is the most flawed character I have ever played, and in fact, it has been the most flawed character ever showcased in a commercial Hindi cinema.” Shahid even mentioned that success can be attributed to the open-mindedness of the people. He said, “We should thank the audience for being so open in their acceptance.”
Meanwhile, the Kabir Singh has managed to rake in Rs 264 Crore at the box office and is still not stopping. Despite competition from other films like Article 15 and Super 30, Shahid and Kiara’s films held its ground for almost 4 weeks and is still going good. The film is a Hindi remake of Telugu flick, Arjun Reddy starring Vijay Deverakonda. Helmed by Sandeep Vanga, Kabir Singh is one of the most successful films of Shahid’s career.
