Phillauri: CBFC asks the filmmakers to chop off the Hanuman Chalisa scene
Ever since the trailer of Phillauri has hit the web, viewers have been waiting for the release and today, finally the day has come. However, CBFC which is infamous for censoring various scenes did not spare this movie as well. In the movie, there is a scene where Suraj Sharma is seen chanting Hanuman Chalisa in a bathtub.
A source told a leading daily, “This amounted to hurting of religious sentiments. The CBFC has asked for the Hanuman Chalisa to be removed from the soundtrack. All the audience will hear now is Suraj long droning chant which would be inaudible.”
Talking about it, CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani said, “In my opinion it’s not the CBFC’s job to sit in judgment on the content of a film. We can only make amends in the presentation of the content.”
Pahlaj Nihalani also added, “Not propagating superstition and blind faith falls in the jurisdiction of the State government. If we sat judgement over films on ghosts then we’d have to question why classics like Mahal, Gumnam, Woh Kaun Thi and Lekin were passed.”
The film tells the story of an NRI who come to India to get married, but is a maanglik so has to get married to a tree and in turn he gets a spirit Shashi aka Anushka Sharma along with him.
