Ever since the trailer of Thackeray was released, fans have been showering love and praises on Nawazuddin Siddiqui for his excellent portrayal of the Shiv Sena supremo and talking about the role, Nawazuddin said, “I couldn’t ever imagine the difficulty this role would offer and I started growing nervous with time. The director helped me ease into the role while we were shooting,” adding, “Balasaheb’s personality is so imposing that one can only try to live up to it. It has been a tremendous opportunity for me as an actor and I am ever thankful to Sanjay Raut.”

Nawazuddin Siddiqui plays the Shiv Sena supremo in Thackeray alongside Amrita Rao, who will portray Meenatai Thackeray, Bal Thackeray’s wife, and the film is slated to release on January 25, 2019. Ever since the trailer of the film was dropped online, there has been a row regarding the film’s release date, with some activists claiming that they want a solo release for Thackery. In the wake of the protests, the makers of Emraan Hashmi’s Cheat India have preponed the film’s release. Recently, Aamir Khan was asked about the film and producers changing release dates of their film to avoid a clash with Thackeray, to which Aamir said, “Every producer wants his/her film to release on a good (suitable) date…Each producer also wants (date of release of) his/her film to not clash with any other big film. I think, there is no bigger star than Balasahab in Maharashtra. So, no one would want to clash with that (release of the film `Thackeray’). So, it is a normal thing. I don’t think there is any surprise.”
