Jiah Khan Death Case: Rabia Khan appeals to the Supreme Court; files SLP

Jiah Khan’s body was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her home on June 3, 2013, It’s almost four years and the case is still on with Jiah’s mother Rabia fighting for justice. The latest development in the case is that Rabia has now filed for a Special Leave Petition or SLP and has moved the case to the Supreme Court.

For those who don’t know, SLP can be filed against any judgement of any High Court in India. In January, Bombay High Court turned down an application seeking for a Special Investigation Team assisted by Federal Bureau of Investigation to probe if her daughter Jiah Khan was murdered by Sooraj Pancholi who Jiah’s boyfriend back then.

Rabia’s counsel also submitted photographs of Jiah’s corpse and the post-mortem report comprising comments of medical professionals from the UK. The report suggested the possibility of a homicide, going by the injuries on her body.

A division bench of Justice Ranjit More and Justice Anuja Prabhudessai told a leading daily, “Central Bureau of Investigation has carried out fresh investigation from all the aspects. But Rabia can still persuade the trial court based on the material so produced by her, and that the charge sheet is not the end of the matter.”

Is it just suicide or homicide? The details which came out in December 2015 reportedly said that Sooraj extricated Jiah’s foetus with his own hands.
