Half Girlfriend stars Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor and it’s based on Chetan Bhagat’s novel of the same name. Concept of movie is basically two people falling in love, all credits to their passion for basketball. The themes of the movie are love and heartbreak and the music has to go in a sink with that.
Here’s our music review of Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor’s Half Girlfriend.
Chehre mein tere
Khud ko main dhundun
Aankhon ke darmiyan
Tu ab hai iss tarah
Khwabon ko bhi jagah na mile
Baarish will make you fall in love and to best feel the song, just close your eyes and you’ll travel places. When you are in love, pehli baarish is something you would want to cherish with your partner – Yeh mausam ki barish, Yeh baarish ka paani, Yeh paani ki boondein
Tujhe hi toh dhundein. The song starts with the tunes of santoor and it sets the tone and then it oscillates between santoor and violin. For a music buff, it also offers drums, keyboard and piano. But, what will sooth your ears is santoor tunes. Sung by Ash King and Shashaa Tirupati, Baarish is just perfect for a long drive in a rainy weather with your boyfriend or husband. Romance in the air!
Chahe kitna bhi dekhti jaaun
Waqt jaaye main rok na paaun
Tu thodi der aur thehar ja soneya
Tu thodi der aur thehar jaa
Thodi Der is perfectly placed after Baarish. It signifies the phase when you confess your love and you just want to stick on and want that person to stay for some time more to spend quality time. Farhan Saeed and Shreya Ghoshal have given their voice to this song and it’s beautiful. Well, what makes the song even more special is the arrangement of the musical instruments – Harmonium, Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar, Harmonium and Sarangi. Lyrics are penned by Kumaar and it completely suits the bill.
Tu Hi Hai
After you start spending time with your loved one, he or she becomes your addiction and you are head over heels. The best part about the song is that the composer Rahul Mishra has mixed grunge with qawali. This song might remind you of Chand Sifarish from Fanaa.
Phir Bhi Tumko Chaahunga
Sung by Mithoon, Arijit Singh and Shashaa Tirupati, Phir Bhi Tumko Chaahunga is one of the best songs of the album. Well, heartbreak is inevitable in a romantic film and here’s the new song which has to be a part of your sad and emotional playlist. If you are going through a breakup, this song is a big NO NO as you’ll cry your heart out. Yeh raaste alag ho jayein, Chalte chalte hum kho jayein, Main phir bhi tumko chahunga – lyrics by Manoj Muntashir are melancholic to the core. And musical instruments like acoustic guitar, violin and drums do rest of the wonders for the song.
Pal Bhar (Chaahunga Reprise)
This is the reprised version of Phir Bhi Tumko Chaahunga and it’s just magical. Hats off to Arijit and Mithoon. You would love it if you are one of those who loves reprised versions. Pal bhar tumhe jo na sochun toh, Dhadkane tarasne lagti hai, Tumko jo dekh lun namm aankhen bhi, Haule se hasne lagti hai – lyrics will make your tears roll down your cheeks.
Lost Without You
The song starts with the tunes of bamboo flute and guitar. After heartbreak, the manzil goes laapata and you are just lost in your thoughts and you just wish to fix your broken self. Sung by Ami Mishra and Anushka Shahaney, Lost Without You is not the song that you’ll like in one go, but if you play it on loop, you would fall for the song.
Stay A Little Longer
Will you ever come find me, Will you ever be mine, Need you now, oh hold me closer, Stay a little longer with me, baby!, Won’t you stay a little longer with me…Oh I know that time to leave has come, I’m not ready for this moment to be done!
Hasn’t this moment come in everyone’s life? When you want to fix things right, but you know it won’t be as perfect as it was and you still want to hold on. The only thing you want the person you love to be by your side and not leave you ever again. Sung by Anushka Shahaney, Stay A Little Longer is a song you would want to play when you are alone sitting near a window!
Mere Dil Mein
Well, this is the most social media savvy song! R. Rekhi, Veronica Mehta, Yash Anand, Yash Narvekar and Ishita Moitra Udhwani have penned the song. We are wondering what was it about the song that so many lyricists had to pool in and write this song. But, the song is quirky and there’s no doubt about it – “Hua dil pe hai dent, aadhi de commitment, karegi na repent, banja meri half girlfriend.”
Half Girlfriend Love Theme
This is the best part of the album as it combines all the instrumental versions of all the songs and it’s just beautiful.
Mere Dil Mein (Dialogue Version)
Composer Rishi Rich has amalgamated Arjun Kapoor’s dialogue with the song, but it doesn’t add much to the jukebox.
Verdict: In a nutshell, Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor’s Half Girlfriend’s album is something which is a perfect bill for lovers.
