EXCLUSIVE: Kanan Gill on working with Sonakshi Sinha in Noor – It wasn’t difficult at all
All of us know of Kanan Gill as a sensation on YouTube. He became popular and all the credit goes to his popular segment Pretentious Movie Reviews which he hosted with comedian Biswa Kalyan Rath. In the show, Biswa and he used to make fun of the script of the 90’s movies. Now, Kanan is venturing into Bollywood with Sonakshi Sinha’s upcoming film, Noor. We got a chance to meet him before the release of his upcoming film and he got candid about working with Sonakshi and much more.
Excerpts from the interview:
Noor is your Bollywood debut and how does it feel finally stepping into the industry as an actor?
Weird! About the movie, it’s a mixture of anxiety and excitement. One hour anxiety and one-hour excitement.
How was it working with Sonakshi?
It was great. Sonakshi tweeted out to us and she liked our review that we did three years ago. She really likes Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon. It wasn’t difficult at all. She is super professional. On the sets, whoever it was Shibani or Purab or Sonakshi, we got along really well.
Any off-screen moments on the sets you would cherish?
Specifically! It’s hard to pinpoint. But, they have put out the behind-the-scene fun video where we are cracking jokes and having fun. Hard to pick one thing.
Few reports suggest that you would be reviewing Noor. Is it true?
Maybe! I sent it to one person and then the second article picks up from the first and third from the second. Now, it a FACT (laughs).
You became famous because of Pretentious Movie Reviews. Would we see you teaming up with Biswa again?
Yeah! Very much! I would say never say never.
Many YouTube sensations have opened up on the recent controversy of TVF Arunabh’s molestation case. Do you think there’s any truth to it?
I think the one positive thing which has come out of it is that people are now talking about it. Companies first didn’t have any policy, but now they do have. I don’t want to speculate about it. Let the formal investigation happen.
You enjoy being a YouTube star or a Bollywood actor?
As a comedian. Check out my Twitter Bio.
Is there any wishlist? Whom do you want to work with next?
No, nothing like that. I don’t really have a wishlist as such.
Any upcoming projects?
I have nothing on my calendar. It’s all empty and I am not lying. I will be putting up some of my comedy shows for now.
What about Kapil Sharma and Sunil Grover’s controversy?
I don’t even if it’s true. All I want to say that it’s not just restricted to one profession, people fight everywhere. And if it’s true, I don’t encourage such sort of behaviour.
As a comedian, you tend to at times make fun of actors too. Has it ever backfired in your case?
Not really! We made fun of the script but not people. That’s what the line we kind of drew in terms of our reviews.
