Bala makers might land in legal trouble after Dr. Zeus slams them over copyright issue of song Don’t Be Shy

Ayushmann Khurrana’s upcoming release Bala has emerged as controversy’s favourite child ever since its trailer has been released. The movie, which revolves around a man suffering from premature balding, landed in legal trouble recently after the makers of Sunny Singh’s Ujda Chaman slammed them of copyright violation. To note, Ujda Chaman is the official remake of Kannada movie Ordu Motteya Kathe. Ujda Chaman producer Abhishek Pathak claimed that while they had the official remake rights of the movie, the Bala makers have tried to maneuver the screenplay by flipping a few things.

And while the Bala makers are still dealing with this legal issue, it is reported that the movie got stuck in another legal soup of copyright violation. However, this time over its recently released song ‘Don’t Be Shy’. Reportedly, the renowned music composer-singer Dr. Zeus has slammed the makers of using his song ‘Don’t Be Shy’ without giving due credits to him. For the uninitiated, the Bala makers had released the first track of the movie on Friday which was a remixed version of Dr. Zeus popular track.

The remix version has been sung by Badshah and Shalmali Kholgade while music director duo Sachin-Jigar gave the music to the remix version. Besides, Mellow D and Badshah had also added some additional lyrics to the original track.

Accusing the team of copying his old songs, Dr. Zeus questioned Badshah and Sachin Jigar on micro-blogging site Twitter. He also emphasised that he is planning to take legal action in the matter. “@sonymusicindia @MaddockFilms @Its_Badshah @SonyMusicUK @SachinJigarLive wen did u compose don’t b shy & kangna.. more to the point how dare u guys b riding off ma old hits & fuckin them up??? Ya need to get original My lawyers will b in touch,” he tweeted.

Meanwhile, Badshah clarified his stand on the controversy and stated that he was given the song only after ensuring they had the required rights of the song. Furthermore, Badshah also assured that he will clear the misunderstanding regarding the song soon.

“I am aware of the situation around ‘Dont be shy’. I want to start by saying that I love and respect @drzeusworld paaji immensely and he knows it. He has the right to get angry with me because he’s my senior and I’ve learned a lot from him. And he is the last person I would want to go through something like this. I got on the song, which has been recreated by my dear friends Sachin Jigar, only after making sure we had the necessary rights. But still if there’s any misunderstanding, I’ll make sure it gets cleared asap. I support Zeus Paaji,” Badshah tweeted.

Interestingly, this is the second time that Ayushmann’s movie has faced copyright issues over one of its tracks this year. Earlier, his last release Dream Girl also faced a similar issue for its promotional song Dhagala Lagali. The song was a reprised version of a popular Marathi song from Dada Kondke’s Bot Lavin Tithe Gudgulya. To recall, Saregama India, the owners of the original song, had filed a petition against the Dream Girl song citing copyright violation in Delhi High Court. Later the HC ordered to pull down the new version from the digital platforms.
