If there is one actor in Bollywood who has been constantly concentrating on doing films with unique content, it is Ayushmann Khurrana. The star of the upcoming film Article 15 has gone from being the hero of rom-coms like Badhaai Ho to being the victim in AndhaDhun. Ayushmann’s next phase of film line ups are extremely interesting and will show him in different genres doing unique things on the screen. Amidst this, Ayushmann opened up about his upcoming next, Article 15.
In a recent interview with Mumbai Mirror, Ayushmann revealed how difficult it was for him to shoot for Article 15. He mentioned in the interview that he has an ease of switching on and off once he is off the camera. Hence, he was able to live through the role of an IPS in Article 15. He also mentioned that he trained for the film by observing a friend who was an IPS officer in Delhi and also saw the local cops in Lucknow, UP to perfect his role.
Ayushmann said, “My director Anubhav Sinha is an evolved soul. He recommended a lot of books to read before the shoot because this kind of discrimination is unique to our country. What Mulk was for Hindu-Muslims, Article 15 is for casteism. And boy, was it a difficult shoot! We’d shoot around 5-6 am and in the evening, between 4.30-6.30 pm to catch the magical light. We filmed in muck, infested with leeches and water snakes, for three days.” While Ayushmann even revealed that he used to sit in a police station all day to see the cops in action to prepare for his role. He added that the film is very real and has no low-angle shots.
Article 15 is a film based on a section of the Constitution of India which states that no individual can discriminate against another on the basis of religion, sex, caste, creed or any other matter. In the film, Ayushmann is playing a cop who fights the caste system in a small area where 3 women are raped for demanding a raise. The trailer left everyone in awe of Ayushmann’s acting and also of the concept. Helmed by Anubhav Sinha, Article 15’s trailer got an overwhelming response from Ayushmann’s fans who believe in his ability to stick to good content. Article 15 is slated to release on June 28, 2019.
