While currently, Akshay Kumar is busy shooting for Rohit Shetty’s Sooryavanshi, he has already wrapped up two films- Good News and Mission Mangal. While Good News will see Akshay Kumar romance Kareena Kapoor Khan, Mission Mangal will have Akshay in the role of a scientist which is inspired by a group of Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) who worked on the Mars Orbiter Mission. Yes, while Akshay will essay the role of a scientist, his co-stars- Vidya Balan, Sonakshi Sinha and Taapsee Pannu, will “play characters that head various aspects of the operation. Akshay’s character puts the team together and drives them to achieve the goals. It’s more of him being a mentor to the young team,” as quoted by Mirror.
As the name suggests, Mission Mangal is the story of India’s space mission to Mars and talking about the film, the source says, “The premise is based on true events, but the team has taken some creative liberties for cinematic purposes. The mission was successful because of the teamwork, and every character has their moment of glory in the screenplay. It is the story of an underdog team standing tall against all odds.” Mission Mangal is directed by South filmmaker Jagan Shakti and the films stars Akshay Kumar, Sonakshi Sinha, Vidya Balan, and Taapsee Pannu in lead roles. Mission Mangal will hit the screens on August 15, 2019 and it will have a box office clash with John Abraham’s Batla House and Prabhas’ Saaho.
Recently, Akshay Kumar took to social media to pen a note to inform his followers the Mission Mangal is one film which he has especially done for his daughter. Akshay wrote, “#MissionMangal ,a film which I hope will inspire as well as entertain. A film which I’ve done specially for my daughter and children her age to familiarise them with the incredible true story of India’s mission to Mars!”
