It was just a few weeks ago that the much-hyped Airlift opened to a thunderous response at the ticket window, sending Akshay Kumar’s fans into a state of frenzy. Moreover, the movie—which was based on the world’s largest human evacuation and contained a strong patriotic message, managed to garner some rather encouraging reviews. However, despite these developments, a small section of society found it to be a bit underwhelming and complained that it had distorted facts. In fact, the official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs too had emphasized that the film was short of facts.
Responding to these allegations, filmmaker Raja Menon recently stated that purpose of Airlift was to show that the government can achieve the extraordinary and thereby make the youth proud of their motherland.
“I wanted to make a film that showed us that the Indian government can and does achieve the incredible. It manages feats that seem impossible, to take care of her citizens. I wanted to try and get the youth to feel a sense of pride towards their country. I wanted every Indian to remember that India had stood by her people when it mattered most”, he stated.
We must say Menon’s hard-hitting response shows that he is very passionate about his country and his craft.
